ABOUT BIG BAD WOLF

Hailing from Aptos, in Santa Cruz County, California, Big Bad Wolf howls with a special off-the-beaten-path brand of tasty and danceable, blues based classic rock and R&B. band is made up of four local veteran musicians from the area who’ve been jamming together since 2017.

All four members agree that an important strength is to choose songs that people recognize but don’t often hear. The Big Bad Wolf's collection of classic covers ranges from Beatles to Bowie to James Brown to CCR with many interesting stops in between. A party with the Big Bad Wolf is always a high octane, rip-roaring good time. The number one word fans use to describe The Wolf is “FUN!”

Jefferson Hancock, guitar and vocals

Jefferson has been jamming in local bands around Santa Cruz for many years. Raised on the Beatles and Creedence Clearwater Revival, he’s known for his distinctive ability to mimic many of the great rock singers, most notably John Fogerty. His guitar style emulates 70’s hard rock.

Mark Hull, guitar and vocals

Mark has been playing in bands since his teens and thanks his mom for insisting at age 11 that he play a musical instrument. His musical roots are deep in the soil of the golden era of rock and roll. The Americana sound, the Beatles, and the blues all continue to influence what and how he plays today.

Don Rutter, Drums

Don Rutter, aka “The Santa Cruz Hammer,” has been playing in the Santa Cruz area for many years. He’s played with many different bands including The Beach Cowboys, Rio Road Band, The Lou DeLuca Band, The Pat McCormack Group just to name a few. He has played the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area and beyond, before joining The Big Bad Wolf.

Eric Malmberg, Bass

Eric is a well known bassist in the Santa Cruz area. He plays regularly with several different groups including Alex Lucero's band, Anthony Arya, and, formerly, the Blues Suspects.

Steve Slivkoff, drums

Steve has moved away from the area. We will miss him greatly, wish him well, and hope he comes to visit us soon.
